Known as the “Warrior Pope”. Julius II was supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic church from November of 1503 to February of 1513. He is famous for instituting the Swiss guard, beggining the reconstruction of St. Peter’s Basillica in earnest, and marching with an army that would face the French at Mirandola.
We have chosen to depict His Holiness with armor, as he was in Raffaello Tancredi’s painting of the events at Mirandola. We also could not pass up an opportunity to sculpt the Papal Tiara.
